In 2000, the company partnered with Apple to create the multimedia speakers called SoundSticks. Harman Kardon bought the speaker company JBL in 1969. Though designs have since changed, early equipment could be identified by a copper plated chassis with a copper and black color scheme for panels and enclosures. The company was started in 1953 by Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon. Harman Kardon is known for manufacturing consumer audio equipment. Harman Kardon speakers are manufactured by Harman Kardon or harman/kardon, a division of Samsung.
